Data collection and survey reporting is very important as an educator. In fact, in my college life, we will be using it soon: Course evaluations! That is one way I could use data collection in the future, because I believe it is important to get student feedback on your course so that you can be better next time. Also, I think using Excel is a great way to track student performance in the classroom. While other grade book apps may be more user friendly, Excel is a really streamlined way to see how everyone is doing in your class. My favorite Excel tool, and something I see myself using a lot is conditional formatting. This way you can easily see who is passing and failing your class. These tools are very important at any level for classroom management.
Something I found most interesting from my classmate’s blogs was seeing how their experiences in this class compared to mine. I have been approaching this class through the lens of a theatre teacher, so a lot of this content isn’t very relevant to me. But, a lot of my classmates have made very successful classroom templates for their future classes. Also, I loved seeing what resources my classmates found online. This was especially fun when we were using Diigo, because you could see, read and annotate each other’s resources super easily.
One skill I have wanted to develop for a long time is coding. I would love to learn to code because I think it gives you freedom with website design, I think it teaches you about robotics and it is almost like a different language! Coding is all about problem solving so that is really interesting to me. How will I learn to code? Well, the FSU Tech Sandbox has computer programs which teach coding through games. These programs come at all levels. So, I intend to re-visit the tech sandbox and play these games until I feel I have a good base understanding of coding.
