Catch you on the Flip- side! Blog 9

This week we discussed the possibility of  a flipped classroom, or where the instructor uploads the lecture before class and expects students to be able to work. We did this using Flipgrid! If you would like to see my responses on the flipped classroom, go check it out.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are free online materials that can be used independently or can supplement a in-class curriculum. The idea behind this is that it allows students access to materials without impacting their finances. This is particularly helpful at the college level where textbook prices and online access codes rival the price of tuition. Here is an article about 16 OER resource pages which break down the types of OERs that are available. This resource is valuable because it compiles resources that teachers need to be aware of.

The recent assignments have redefined the way I have thought about PowerPoint! Assignment 4, powerpoint for information dissemination, was challenging because it required us to add a slide to the master theme. I found it challenging to add a slide to the master and maintain the overall theme. Assignment 4 also allowed us to record the accompanying lecture for the PowerPoint without using a third party application. This was challenging but very helpful because it allows teachers to leave their lectures during absences. Assignment 5 was much more challenging as it required the PowerPoint to be interactive. The most helpful thing I learned in making that powerpoint is planning the pathways of slides out beforehand. That planning allowed me to check the function of the interactive buttons as I went, rather than waiting until the end. I had fun designing my virtual aquarium! Check out these screenshots:
